Scott’s 2000 20-inch classic push reel lawn mower review.

Scott’s 2000 Reel Lawn Mower Review

So you’re here because you are looking for a lawn mower that is easy to use, effective and compact! If only you could reduce your carbon footprint too. Lawn mowers that meet these rather specific criteria are hard to come by, I know this because I have tried and tested numerous models over the years.

The problem with many lawn mowers is that they are big, heavy and complicated. Maintenance of the machine can take longer than the act of cutting the grass and the blades can quickly and easily rust leaving you feeling as though sometimes the very act of cutting the lawn is simply too stressful.

The result is then an overgrown lawn, one that you don’t want to go near under any circumstance. The solution lies in the phrase ‘less is more’. Cutting the grass should not be complicated, it’s a maintenance activity after all so it should be easy and that’s exactly where the Scotts Classic Push Reel Lawn Mower saves the day!

An Easier Way To Mow The Lawn

The Push Reel Mower is made by Scott’s and it’s an easy-to use, manual lawn mower. Its ergonomic design eliminates the need for any over-complicated features giving you a stress free lawn mowing experience – taking it back to basics. Looks wise, it’s a very neat and tidy little thing, most certainly not an eyesore like many older design manual lawn mowers.

This lawnmower was created to bridge the gap between the simple and effective and the more complex modern day creations – let's face it, modern day life has enough complications as it stands!

The small but mighty machine is powered completely by you and it’s robust enough to be able to cut through thick turf with ease. Not only that, it provides a quiet, pollution-free solution for any garden and lawn that requires some TLC.

The mower incorporates dual tracking wheels and ultra-sharp steel blades to ensure accurate cutting and efficient operation without making every muscle in your body ache.

It’s All About The Results

The results and benefits of this nifty lawn mower have been second to none. I even let my next-door neighbor borrow it for the day and he’s in his early 80s. He loved it and found it very easy to use and operate due to its lightweight. An important thing to remember when first using this mower is to oil it first! I almost forgot to do this.

You can actually use some extra virgin olive oil on a paper towel and wipe it onto the blades – this is what I did because I had actually run out of other options, I usually have a plentiful supply of bike lubricant but the olive oil just so happened to be on hand.

Don’t worry though because you can use just about any vegetable oil or skin-friendly silicone instead to oil up the wheels!

After using it for the very first time, I found that the blades actually cut very evenly and smoothly for a first time attempt!

I loved the fact there was no leftover white tips on the grass afterwards indicating a sharp, quick cut. You do have a 20" advertised cutting width, but you're better off (from my experience) trying to cut around 15" wide, and overlapping a bit to make sure you don't leave those annoying strips.

What Others Say

Having read numerous reviews online before I purchased this mower (because my garden is ½ an acre so it's hardly on the small side) I needed something that could handle the job.

I am very into reducing my carbon footprint so it had to be a pollution-free manual mower. My grass almost always reaches over a foot tall because yes, I’m lazy but in my defense I’ve never had the right lawn mower before, it’s also pretty thick with widely varying cooperativeness.

Assembling the mower was simple – much to my delight and the height adjustment levers were easy to reach and moved with ease and the fact it cut my lawn beautifully was a total win. Make sure the wheels are level for a perfect cut. Moving with this manually also gives me a great little bit of exercise!

Buying Advice

What’s really great about purchasing the Scotts 2000-20 20-Inch Classic Push Reel Lawn Mower is that it comes with a 2-year warranty, which eliminates a lot of worry!

I purchased my mower from amazon, due to comparing with a lot of other sites the price was the best for me at around $104, I also had the options to upgrade to a 3 or 4-year protection for less than $19.

2 products I would highly recommend accompanying your purchase would be the American Lawn Mower 1ST-SP Reel Mower Grass Catcher and the SK-1 Reel Mower Sharpening Kit.

These 2 accessories will ensure that your lawn mowing experience is as easy as possible with minimal grass waste all over!

Keeping your blades sharp will also ensure the longevity of the mower and it's effectiveness.

Men and real lawn mower.

Our Recommendation

I have to say I was more than pleasantly surprised with this manual lawn mower. For a relatively cheap price and with it being a manual, it's very good at its job and enables you to achieve a flawless cut.

It's usability; simplicity and effectiveness just tick all the boxes for me. I actually look forward to mowing my lawn now instead of dreading it like I used to! I’m also not polluting the atmosphere while I do it!
